Welcome to Oxford Health Histories
A historical perspective on how medicine and healthcare have developed in Oxford. You can explore themes that are still challenges for medicine today, such as the role of anatomy in medical education, the treatment of mental health and how innovations in drug development are shaped by patients.
This project looks at historical practices of medicine and healthcare in and around Oxford, encouraging engagement with the diverse range of histories of health and medicine that can be found within the city. We will focus on some of the more complex, challenging, and understudied aspects to that history, exploring issues such as imperialism and medicine, healthcare inequalities and the experiences of healthcare students and professionals who came to train and work in the city.
