These three workbooks draw on local and global histories of health and medicine, enabling students to compare and contrast histories of Oxfordshire with wider stories from medicine across the world. All the workbooks detail the rich histories of healthcare that have happened right here in our county. The ’Anatomy’ and ‘Penicillin’ workbooks are best suited to GCSE students, especially those working on modules about the history of medicine through time. The ‘Mental Health' workbook is designed to be more flexible for use from Year 9 upwards in PHSE, local history, history of medicine, or even as the basis for an EPQ.
All workbooks were reviewed by local secondary school teachers.
The workbooks were developed by Zaiba Patel. They are a collaboration between Oxford Health Histories (www.oxfordhealth.web.ox.ac.uk) and Uncomfortable Oxford (www.uncomfortableoxford.com/). They were funded by the John Fell Fund, University of Oxford. Special thanks to Martin Daniels, Lizzy Diggins, and David Hibbert.
